Protect Local Bag Bans: Stop Statewide Preemption in Texas
The Texas Chapters have united to protect the localities that have passed or would like to pass a single-use plastic bag ban or other local bag regulation in an effort to abate solid waste pollution in our environment. Although these bills have been struck down in City of Laredo v. Laredo Merchants Association, the chapters continue to strive to support local plastic reduction efforts.
With the City of Laredo v. Laredo Merchants Association decision that struck down local bag ordinances, the Texas Chapters are now working with partner organizations to pressure retailers to demonstrate leadership and continue to not offer plastic bags in the municipalities that had enacted bag bans. The chapters are also contemplating legislative opportunities in 2019.
